Today the head of Rosselhoznadzor Sergei Dankvert met with a representative of the European Union responsible for food safety, to lobby for the initiative of Kaliningrad Governor Georgy Boos on selling in the EU of food products produced in the Kaliningrad region.
As explained by a source in the regional government, a number of Kaliningrad companies, including those with foreign capital, producing meat food products, have sought to enter the market of neighboring Poland, but were refused. The major reason for the refusal was the fact that the veterinary system of Russia cannot be audited by Europeans.
Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia and Rosselhoznadzor strengthened control over production by constructing high-capacity veterinary laboratories in Kaliningrad. The source in the Government of the Kaliningrad region said that the EU is asked to allow access to European markets for Kaliningrad products.
